Urban areas growth monitoring based on satellite remote sensing data
Monitoring of urban growth processes is essential due to environment protection and urban planning. Cities expansion is always connected with new roads, buildings and infrastructure development which has a great influence on environment.
Study of the urban areas growth can be based on the satellite radar and optical imagery. In case of SAR radar data, the analysis is focused on identification of coherent objects which correspond to stable radar targets like buildings, bridges, viaducts, roads, etc. By analyzing the spatial location of coherent objects in different moments in time it is possible to assess the speed and direction of the urban areas growth. The same study can be done based on satellite optical images which are used for land cover types classification.
At SATIM we offer analysis of urban areas growth based on satellite radar and optical data.
